Who are the Basques? My guest this week is Dr. Xabier Irujo. Dr. Irujo is the Director of the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno where he is also a professor of genocide studies. Dr. Irju holds three master's degrees in linguistics, history, and philosophy and has two Ph.D.s in history and philosophy. He has published on issues related to Basque history and politics and has specialized in genocide studies with a focus on physical and cultural extermination. Dr. Irujo has authored more than 15 books and a number of journal articles and has received awards and honors at the national and international level. His recent books include Gernika: Genealogy of a Lie, Gernika 1937: The Market Day Massacre, and Legal History of the Basque Language.

Terrence Shulman is an author, therapist, and educator. He is the Founder and Director of The Shulman Center for Compulsive Theft, Spending, and Hoarding. This center addresses the growing-yet under-treated-epidemics of compulsive stealing, spending, and hoarding. Before establishing the center Terrence worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for many years. Terry is also a Licensed Master Social Worker and an Attorney at Law specializing in Criminal Defense and Mental Health Law. Finally, Terrence has written several books including "Bought Out and Spent: Recovery from Compulsive Shopping and Spending."

He holds many titles including 4-time Pan American Champion, 1 time no gi pan American champion in 2008, 2 Times Brazilian national champion, 2 Times Silver medalist at the world BJJ championships, and MMA lightweight champion in Brazil. With more than 30 years of teaching experience, Professor Draculino is considered one of the best instructors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. His students include national and world BJJ champions, Mixed Martial Art Champions and more than 500 Black Belts.

Today's guest is Dr. Demetrius Pearson who is an Associate Professor at the University of Houston. Dr. Pearson has conducted research and written about African American involvement in various sport forms, including the North American Rodeo, as well as their depiction in contemporary sport films. Dr. Pearson contributed to the book "Black Cowboys in the American West: On the Range, on the Stage, Behind the Badge" which won the Ray and Pat Browne Award for Best Edited Collection in Popular Culture and American Culture. He also wrote Chapter 6 of the book titled, "Shadow Riders of the Subterranean Circuit: A Descriptive Account of Black Rodeo in the Texas Gulf Coast Region." His latest book, "Black Rodeo in the Texas Gulf Coast Region: Charcoal in the Ashes," was released in 2021.
